MCML at the Frontier AI Innovation Summit 2026 in Stuttgart

All Hands Meeting of the German AI Centers and ELIAS Alliance Annual Meeting, Hosted by the Tübingen AI Center

On October 7 and 8, 2026, MCML took part in the Frontier AI Innovation Summit at Messe Stuttgart. Hosted by the Tübingen AI Center, this year’s summit brought together the All Hands Meeting of the German AI Centers and the ELIAS Alliance Annual Meeting. Researchers, innovators, and partners from Germany and across Europe gathered to discuss how frontier AI research can be translated into societal and economic impact.

A central part of the program was the series of Impact Talks, giving each German AI center the opportunity to present selected Focused Impact AI Projects.
MCML Director Thomas Seidl opened MCML’s Impact Talk, highlighting the importance of bringing cutting-edge AI research into real-world applications. He also announced that MCML will host next year’s All Hands Meeting, paving the way for another opportunity to bring the German AI Centers together.

Following this, MCML Director Daniel Cremers presented a selection of MCML’s impact projects. Among them were RobCo by MCML PI Matthias Althoff, Ecologic Computing by MCML PI Gitta Kutyniok, and Portabiles by MCML PI Björn Eskofier, alongside DeepScenario and SE3 Labs from his own work.
Together, these projects showcased a broad range of applications, from spatial intelligence and industrial robotics to energy-efficient computing and digital health.

Panel discussion
Looking across the wider program, the Impact Talks from BIFOLD, DFKI, the Lamarr Institute, ScaDS.AI, and the Tübingen AI Center demonstrated the breadth of AI research being translated into real-world applications. Topics ranged from real-time AI on edge devices and Earth observation to open European foundation models, AI for industrial sovereignty, drug discovery, and personalized learning in schools. Keynote speakers added a broader perspective on where frontier AI is heading, exploring world models and spatial intelligence, AI for climate and physical systems, and AI for high-stakes decision-making where it is needed most.

Save the date for next year's meeting
Beyond the individual projects and talks, the summit also highlighted the strong spirit of collaboration across the German AI Centers. With opportunities to exchange ideas, share experiences, and connect across the network, this collaborative spirit was visible throughout the two-day program. Joint projects and contributions from across the community were complemented by panels, workshops, poster sessions, and plenty of opportunities for networking.

We thank the Tübingen AI Center for hosting and for bringing the German AI community together in Stuttgart. We look forward to welcoming the German AI Centers at MCML next year for another round of exchange and connection.
