MCML at the LRZ Open Day 2026
Open Day at the Garching Research Campus Together With the “Türen Auf Mit Der Maus” Day
On October 3, 2026, the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) opened its doors to the public as part of the Open Day at the Garching Research Campus. The day was held together with the nationwide “Türen auf mit der Maus” day organized by WDR. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors of all ages could see quantum computers, AI systems, and supercomputers up close. They could also explore storage archives and data libraries and experience simulations and 3D visualizations.
MCML PI Benjamin Lange contributed to the program and engaged with visitors on artificial intelligence. The program also included guided tours of the computer building for children and adults and demos at the LRZ Centre for Virtual Reality and Visualisation (V2C). There were also hourly talks in the LRZ lecture hall, a hands-on area with programming, painting, crafting, and quiz games, and an information and experiment corner.
LRZ is an important partner for MCML, as it provides the computing infrastructure that supports much of our machine learning research. The Open Day was a great opportunity to show the public how this infrastructure enables AI research in Munich.
We thank the LRZ for the invitation and the great organization!
