On AI and Patient Safety

In emergency rooms, operating theaters, and intensive care units, doctors often have to make critical decisions within seconds. Even experienced physicians can make mistakes, and many hospitals are already using AI to help prevent errors such as mix-ups, incorrect dosages, or dangerous drug interactions.

In an article published by ZDFheute on September 17, 2026, MCML PI Björn Eskofier highlights the great potential of AI for medicine. He explains that AI already plays an important role in improving patient safety and that its significance will continue to grow. According to Eskofier, the selection and quality of the data an AI system relies on are crucial, as poor data can lead to incorrect, biased, or unusable results.
