On the Risks of AI

A debate about the risks of artificial intelligence is currently unfolding in Silicon Valley, after AI researcher Jacob Coxon announced his resignation from Anthropic on X and accused the company of acting irresponsibly. AI developers such as Anthropic and OpenAI warn about their own technology and call for regulation, while many experts accuse them of mainly promoting themselves.

How dangerous are AI models really, and how likely is it that companies will soon develop a model that could harm humanity? In an article published by Handelsblatt on September 17, 2026, AI researchers, including MCML PI Björn Ommer, answered the key questions and put the debate into context.
