Fabian Theis Receives 2026 BBAW Academy Award
Advancing AI-Driven Biomedicine
MCML PI Fabian Theis has received the 2026 Academy Prize from the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW). The €50,000 award recognizes his pioneering work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and biomedicine.
His research has advanced the analysis of gene activity in single cells, the reconstruction of biological processes, and the integration of incomplete cellular data. His group also developed Scanpy, one of the most widely used platforms for single-cell data analysis, contributing to research in biomedicine and precision medicine.
