MCML Delegation Visit to the UK

Advancing International Collaboration in AI

From April 13–17, the MCML will travel to the United Kingdom for a delegation visit aimed at further advancing its international collaboration in AI. This year’s visit focuses on leading academic institutions in London, Oxford, and Cambridge.

The trip brings together MCML researchers and partners for a week of exchange, networking, and joint scientific activities. Its overarching goal is to deepen existing partnerships, initiate new collaborations, and further position Munich as a leading European hub for AI and machine learning.

A Strong Start: MCML Conference at Imperial College London

The first two days of the delegation are dedicated to the Machine Learning Conference organized by the MCML at Imperial College London. The conference brings together researchers from MCML, Imperial, and other academic partners to present current work and engage in discussions on key developments in AI. The topics focus on the Foundations of ML, Language, Vision and Medicine.

Evening Receptions in London

The first conference day concludes with an evening reception at the German Embassy London, bringing together invited guests from academia, policy, and industry. Short pitches emphasize the role of research in fostering innovation and spin-offs across Germany and the UK.

On the second evening, the delegation is welcomed by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) at the Goethe-Institut London, in cooperation with Bavaria in the UK. The reception combines networking with a panel discussion on AI safety, regulation, and innovation from an Anglo-German perspective.

Continuing the Dialogue

Following the conference in London, the delegation continues with visits to Oxford and Cambridge, where further academic exchange formats take place. These include presentations, thematic sessions, and discussions spanning a wide range of AI research areas. The final day of the visit is back in London, with collaborative sessions hosted at King’s College London and University College London.

Strengthening International Networks

The MCML delegation trip to the UK represents an important step in expanding the center’s international network. By bringing together leading researchers and institutions, the visit reinforces shared scientific goals and promotes long-term collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of AI.

Beyond individual meetings and sessions, the trip underscores MCML’s broader mission: to contribute to a globally connected research ecosystem and to strengthen Munich’s role as a key player in artificial intelligence and machine learning in Europe.
