Prof. Dr.

Associate

Lukas Heinrich

holds the Professorship for Data Science in Physics at the School of Natural Sciences at the TU of Munich.

His research background is particle physics, where, as a member of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the CERN. In this context he is developing novel data analysis methods that combine physical knowledge and artificial intelligence. Hist research interests include differentiable and probabi programming techniques as well as the development of foundation models for fundamental physics. He uses these methods to search for traces of new elementary particles that could solve the mystery of dark matter. As coordinator of the Data Science Lab of the ORIGINS Cluster of Excellence (ODSL), he brings together researchers from astronomy, particle physics and biophysics in an interdisciplinary group to bring the developed methods into broad application. He is a recipient of an ERC Starting Grant.
