PhD Student (m/f/d) for the Chair of Al-Assisted Therapy Decisions

Three-Year Position in the BMFTR-Funded Project AIM-ICU

The Chair of AI-Assisted Therapy Decisions at LMU Munich, led by MCML PI Björn Eskofier, is looking for a PhD student for a three-year position. The chair is part of the Institute for Medical Information Processing, Biometry, and Epidemiology (IBE). The position starts as soon as possible.

The position is part of AIM-ICU (Artificial Intelligence for Monitoring and Intensive Care Unit support), a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). AIM-ICU aims to develop a generalizable machine learning framework for actionable ICU monitoring. Its objectives include standardizing ICU data, predicting patient outcomes, and generating treatment insights for healthcare providers.

Candidates should hold an excellent Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field. They should also have a strong background in machine learning and deep learning, programming experience in Python, and familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch. Experience in any of the following areas is desirable: machine learning for longitudinal data, natural language processing, transformers, or electronic health records and clinical data analysis. Excellent written and spoken English is required.
