Konstantin Riedl Receives 2026 SIAM Student Paper Prize
Advancing the Mathematical Foundations of Nonconvex Optimization
Former MCML Junior Member Konstantin Riedl received the 2026 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Student Paper Prize for outstanding research in optimization. The award recognizes the paper, co-authored with MCML PI Massimo Fornasier and Timo Klock, for its significant contribution to the mathematical foundations of nonconvex optimization.
The award-winning work establishes global convergence guarantees for interacting multi-particle systems used in nonconvex optimization. By providing a rigorous theoretical framework for these optimization methods, the research advances the understanding of their behavior and supports the development of more reliable algorithms for challenging optimization problems.
