Their Work Examines the Dual-Use Potential of AI Alignment Methods
MCML Junior Member Sarah Ball and her co-author Phil Hackemann received the Outstanding Position Paper Award at ICML 2026 this week in Seoul.
Their award-winning position paper, "The alignment community is unintentionally building a censor’s toolkit", raises awareness of the dual-use potential of AI alignment methods and highlights the importance of considering how AI research can be misused.
