Towards More Efficient and Accessible AI Systems in Bavaria

MCML PI Björn Ommer was featured in a Tagesschau article on Bavaria’s new large-scale AI initiative, which includes more than €50 million in investment for high-performance Nvidia GPUs to support the development of a regional AI foundation model.

Ommer emphasized that many current AI systems rely heavily on costly hardware and that future progress depends on more efficient approaches. He argued that such developments could broaden access to AI technologies beyond large tech companies, enabling startups and smaller organizations to benefit as well.
