Digdeep Podcast: How Can Dr. ChatGPT Actually Help the Family Doctor, Prof. Jochen Gensichen?
News From the Digital World by MCML PI Frauke Kreuter and Christof Horn
This episode of #digdeep is with Jochen Gensichen, director of general medicine at the LMU Clinic in Munich.
For most people in Germany, the general practitioner's office is the first point of contact, and doctors have to switch between many different concerns and diagnoses every day. Although only a few diagnoses occur frequently, theoretically all of them must be considered, which makes the work complex.
AI can provide support here, for example, with medical history taking, diagnosis, and follow-up care, although many patients already use digital resources such as search engines or chatbots beforehand.
Jochen Gensichen researches the role of AI in general practice and emphasizes its current benefits, especially for documentation tasks. Furthermore, it appears that AI can have advantages in sensitive areas, as patients often entrust it with more open information than they do to human doctors.
Prof. Dr. med. Jochen Gensichen is Director and Chair of General Practice at the Institute of General Practice at the LMU University Hospital Munich. He has headed the institute since October 2016 and is one of the leading figures in German general practice research.
