Welcoming Achim Lilienthal to MCML

Advancing Perception and Autonomy in Robotics Through AI-Driven Systems

We are pleased to welcome Achim J. Lilienthal as a Principal Investigator at MCML.

Achim J. Lilienthal is Professor at the Technical University of Munich, where he holds the Chair of Perception for Intelligent Systems. His research focuses on perception systems in unconstrained and dynamic environments, combining domain knowledge with AI methods. His work spans mobile robot olfaction, rich 3D perception, autonomous navigation, human-robot interaction, eye-tracking support systems, and applications in mathematics education research.

He has extensive international experience, including leading and contributing to major research initiatives such as the Horizon 2020 project DARKO, as well as academic roles and collaborations across Europe and beyond. He has also founded research labs and spin-off companies in mobile robotics and olfaction.
