This article summarises key points from a workshop at DALI Sorrento 2025 in April 2025 which explored the realised and potential social impacts of LLMs, both positive and negative. Called 'LLMs for Social Impact: The Ups, the Downs and the Uncharted Waters', the workshop comprised three sessions, each starting with a series of ‘provocations’ from speakers working in the field, followed by plenary discussion.
