MCML PI Tom Sterkenburg Receives 2026 Simon Award
Awarded for Research in Computing, Philosophy, and Machine Learning
MCML PI Tom Sterkenburg has been awarded the 2026 Simon Award for Outstanding Research in Computing and Philosophy by the International Association for Computing and Philosophy (IACAP), recognizing early-career researchers whose work significantly shapes the field.
Sterkenburg, Emmy Noether group leader at LMU Munich and the Munich Center for Machine Learning, works on the epistemological foundations of artificial intelligence, focusing on inductive bias, learning theory, and the philosophical underpinnings of machine learning.
The award highlights his contributions at the intersection of computing, philosophy, and the theory of machine learning, including work on computable PAC learning and fundamental questions in algorithmic induction.
Congratulations from us!
