The Relationship Between AI, Effort, and Human Meaning
MCML PI Sven Nyholm was recently featured in Big Think. In the article “The hidden cost of letting AI make your life easier,” Nyholm reflects on how increasing reliance on AI might affect our sense of achievement and meaning in life.
He argues that while AI can make many tasks easier, outsourcing effortful activities to machines may reduce opportunities for developing skills, exercising judgment, and experiencing genuine achievement. Nyholm highlights the importance of balancing technological assistance with meaningful human engagement, emphasizing that effort, creativity, and critical thinking remain central to a meaningful life.
