LMU Open Science Center Hackathon
Join the Effort to Preserve At-Risk Research Data
07.08.2025
4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
LMU MUNICH, Leopoldstr. 13 (exact room TBA to registered participants)
The LMU Open Science Center invites researchers, students, and enthusiasts to the upcoming Safeguar.de Hackathon, a hands-on event focused on rescuing and preserving endangered research datasets.
The hackathon will kick off with an ignition talk by Henrik Schönemann (HU Berlin), co-initiator of the safeguar.de project. Participants will then engage in practical sessions, including:
- Seeding research datasets via BitTorrent
- Repurposing old hardware (e.g., 2.5" HDDs, Raspberry Pis) as data rescue nodes
- Writing documentation and building one-click installation tools
This event is open to everyone. Contributions to outreach, coordination, and creative ideas are highly welcome.
Contribute by attending, participating in discussions, or donating unused hardware.
