„Regulatory Readiness Under the AI Act: Operating AI at Scale With HPC Infrastructures as Emerging AI Factories"
27.05.2025
10:00 am - 11:00 am
LRZ Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, Munich + Meet (Hybrid)
The talk will explore how the AI Act may affect institutions operating large-scale AI systems, with a particular focus on HPC centers.
He’ll highlight how regulatory requirements intersect with technical capabilities, and what steps HPC centers can take to prepare for upcoming regulatory expectations, especially as they increasingly become central hubs for AI development and experimentation.
It’s meant to offer a practical, hands-on perspective - partly complianceish, partly strategic - on how HPC institutions can navigate emerging obligations without compromising performance or research agility.
Matthias Wendland is Professor of Law & Technology at the University of Oldenburg, where he leads the interdisciplinary AI Regulation & Governance HUB. With degrees from Harvard, LMU Munich, and Humboldt University Berlin his research focuses on building the next layer of sovereign AI infrastructures. He advises the European Commission and governments on AI and data regulation, with a focus on technical implementation and strategic policy.
