Mean Estimation and Beyond

Shahar Mendelson, Texas A&M University

   16.06.2026

LMU Munich, Mathematisches Institut, Theresiestr. 39, Raum A027, Munich

The Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) is hosting a lecture by Shahar Mendelson from Texas A&M University.

In his talk titled “Mean Estimation and Beyond”, Mendelson addresses a central problem in high-dimensional probability and statistics that has been studied for decades: Can the mean of an unknown random vector be accurately estimated based solely on independent samples? Shahar Mendelson presents key ideas that have led to sharp solutions of this problem and to significant advances on related probabilistic and geometric questions.

Registration is required and can be completed by sending an email to info@cas.lmu.de.

The event will be moderated by MCML PI Holger Rauhut.
